Das Lehrbuch behandelt neben den Grundlagen der Strömungssimulation auch die Modellbildung von Komponenten und Gesamtanlagen der Kraftwerkstechnik. Grundgleichungen für den Wärme- und Stoffaustausch werden wiederholt und für die Anwendung in der numerischen Simulation aufbereitet. Das Buch diskutiert ausführlich ausgewählte numerische Methoden. Es umfasst die Simulation von Feuerungen, Gasströmungen und die der Wasser/Dampfströmung. Regelung und Steuerung, vereinfachte Modelle und Hybridmodelle sowie die Validierung von Messwerten werden behandelt.

Zahlreiche ausgearbeitete Beispiele und Illustrationen erleichtern Lesern das Verständnis der Zusammenhänge von Theorie und Praxis. Einfache Plausibilitätskontrollen zeigen Studierenden, wie sie Ergebnisse einer ersten Überprüfung unterziehen. Das Lehrbuch wendet sich an Forscher sowie an Praktiker in der Industrie, die hier kompetente Anregungen finden.
